Create a Component Within a Takeoff / Using Two Components Simultaneously
Creating a Component:
When creating a component, you can choose one of three component types, depending on how the quantity should be calculated.
Linear
Use Linear components when measuring length.
- Best for items like piping, walls, curbs, or linear framing
- Quantities are calculated based on total measured length
- Typically uses units like feet or meters
Area
Use Area components when measuring surface coverage.
- Ideal for items like flooring, roofing, drywall, or paint
- Quantities are calculated from the measured area
- Typically uses units like square feet or square meters
Count
Use Count components when you need a fixed quantity.
- Best for items like fixtures, equipment, or objects counted individually
- Quantity is based on the number of placed items, not a measurement
- Can optionally use dimensions (height, width, depth) for reference or calculations
Each component type controls how quantities are measured and calculated during takeoff, helping ensure accurate estimates based on the nature of the item.
